FAQs

WHY HIRE AN IEC?

An Independent Educational Consultant can help you and your student to manage stress, find the “best-fit” college, and stay organized.

HOW DOES AN IEC DIFFER FROM YOUR HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR?

Typically, school counselors have caseloads of up to several hundred students. While they are integral to the college application process, most just don’t have the time to dedicate to each individual student. In fact, according to the US Department of Education, public school students only receive an average of 38 minutes of personal advising on the college process. IECs provide hours of individualized service.

WHEN SHOULD I START COLLEGE PLANNING?

College planning can begin at any time during high school, with an eye on course selection and participation in clubs and activities, but most students benefit from honing in on the college selection process during junior year. The common app usually opens August 1 for seniors each year, but you can set up an account and research schools well before that date.

HOW DO YOU HELP US DECIDE WHERE TO APPLY?

Starting with a thorough understanding of each student’s interests, strengths and goals, we will help you identify a list of colleges that offer the right mix of environment and programs in which your student will thrive. And we will work with your student to help them highlight their strengths and potential in order to stand out in the competitive world of college applications.
